Opening of the Holy Door
Official launch of the 350th Anniversay celebrations of the Notre-Dame de Québec
December 8, 2013
Sunday • all day
The opening of the Holy Door in the Notre-Dame de Quebec Basilica-Cathedral marks a historic moment because it will be the first Holy Door of the Catholic tradition outside Europe and the seventh in the world. It is also the official launch of the 350th anniversary of the foundation of the parish of Notre-Dame de Quebec.
The opening will be attended by civil and religious authorities, presided over by Bishop Gérald Cyprien Lacroix, Metropolitan Archbishop of Quebec and Primate of Canada. This event marks the beginning of the festivities of the jubilee year for the parish inside Old Québec.
The Holy Door becomes a spiritual symbol for all people of good will who will want to live this process of pilgrimage where the passage of the Holy Door opens in a personal and communal moment.
Individuals and groups who will enroll in the canvassing of pilgrimage will have the privilege of going into places that have marked the history of Notre-Dame de Québec. Pilgrimages are possible throughout the year 2014.
