Everybody knows that Old Québec is a very photogenic locale. No matter where you aim your lens, the décor is sure to be spectacular. However, a few lesser-known locations offer lovely viewpoints for different shots of the Old City. Here are our suggestions.

Bassin Louise
Why visit: This location offers a stunning view of the boats docked at the Port of Québec Marina and of Old Québec. From here, it’s easy to see why locals refer to “Lower Town” and “Upper Town.”

Rue Couillard
Why visit: This quiet little street located off the beaten track winds delightfully through Old Québec, the façade of every house uniquely typical of the historic quarter.
Where: Rue Couillard runs right off Rue Saint-Jean.

Espace 400e
Why visit: When the sun goes down, the Bunge silos transform into a captivating sculpture of light as part of Robert Lepage’s light show Aurora Borealis.
Where: Rue Quai Saint-André, in the Old Port.

Rue du Sault-au-Matelot
Why visit: With its architecture reminiscent of Old Europe, this picturesque street is brimming with beauty.

Québec Seminary Courtyard
Why visit: The buildings that make up the Séminaire de Québec are arranged in a rectangle overlooking a splendid inner courtyard. The white of the walls contrasts beautifully with the blue of the sky above.
Where: At the end of Côte de la Fabrique, on the left side of Cathedral-Basilica Notre-Dame de Québec.

Montmorency Park
Why visit: This park perched atop a ridge provides a panoramic view of the St. Lawrence River and the Fresque des Québécois mural. It’s got all the makings of a perfect pic.
Where: At the top of Côte de la Montagne, at the corner of Rue Port-Dauphin.

Place de la FAO
Why visit: The Place FAO fountain and the impressive architecture of the old financial district set the scene for enchanting photos.
Where: At the corner of Rue Saint-Paul and Rue du Sault-au-Matelot, in the Old Port.

Pierre-Dugua-De Mons Terrace
Why visit: There’s no better place for sweeping views of the St. Lawrence River, the Dufferin Terrace, and Château Frontenac. At night, when the city is awash with light, the atmosphere is simply magical.
Where: At Bastion-de-la-Reine park, accessible via Avenue Saint-Denis.

Pillar Murals
Why visit: Painted on pillars supporting a highway, these gigantic murals are true works of art depicting imaginary scenes.
Where: Near Old Québec, on Boulevard Charest Est, under Autoroute Dufferin-Montmorency.

Dauphine Redoubt
Why visit: The Dauphine Redoubt is part of the fortifications surrounding the Old City. Its unusual architecture attests to the defensive role the structure once played.
Where: Artillery Park, at the corner of Rue d'Auteuil and McMahon.
