Winner of Leading Culture Destinations Award Québec City, cultural destination of the year

“The jury ranked our city number one worldwide,” said Québec City mayor Régis Labeaume. “Our unique character and knack for innovation were deciding factors. But most of all, the jury was impressed by our bold cultural initiatives, like the Pierre Lassonde Pavilion at Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. We did not solicit this award—we were recommended by ambassadors from around the world. That makes this international recognition truly exceptional. I hope the residents of Québec City will be proud of it!”

“It’s been a great year in terms of international exposure,” added Québec City Tourism director André Roy. “After being named top tourist destination in Canada by Travel + Leisure in July, our innovative cultural offerings must have charmed the jury. What a wonderful showcase for Québec City as a tourist destination!”

The Leading Culture Destinations Awards is supported by The New York Times. Ambassadors of the organization around the world and leading members of the cultural and tourism community nominate candidates based on a number of criteria, the most important being creativity and innovation in the cultural sector. Museum exhibitions, dining, and architecture are also considered.

The highly regarded jury (see attached list) named Québec City Culture City of the Year in the Travellers’ Awards category.

The awards ceremony is covered by the international press. The organization reaches an estimated 50 million people through a range of partnerships and media coverage.
